Why Singapore??

Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles founded Singapore in the 1819 thereby giving the British a trading port. Post that period the population from mere few hundreds increased to 10,000 and later to 100,000 by the end of the century. In the early 20th century many grand buildings, temples etc were erected and Indians, Arabs, Chinese had already arrived. In the middle of the 20th century, Singapore saw geo – political turmoil but eventually gained independence in 1965. By 1990s it had attained the status of Newly Industrialised Country (NIC).

Alongside economic strides Singapore’s education system is regarded top notch among the developed countries. Its ranked 5th in the Human Development Index (HDI). The education system started from the Raffles Institution set up by Sir Raffles in the 19th century which still continues till date. Alongside there are numerous international schools, trust schools, local schools etc catering to the local & expat population offering IB, American, UK, Australian, CBSE curriculum etc.

Singapore is the melting pot of cultures, nationalities, languages etc. Alongside English, Mandarin & Tamil are widely spoken. The life expectancy in Singapore is 83 years and the Gross National Income is a whooping U$D 78,000 per capita. Under the political leadership of Lee Kuan Yew Singapore made significant strides in its development from 1965 to 1990.

Education System:

There is compulsory education for anyone residing in Singapore. Primary & secondary education is free. Students begin kindergarten at age 3, primary school at age 6, secondary at age 12 and choose a college, university or polytechnic at age 17 onwards. Singapore’s top higher educational institutions are world renowned such as NUS and NTU which are ranked 22nd & 52nd respectively in World University rankings by Times Higher Education. Polytechnics are very active & vibrant in Singapore such as Singapore Polytechnic & Nanyang Polytechnic offering specialisations in selected vocations.
